Intermediate. You should be familiar with your sewing machine and be able to sew an accurate 1/4″ sseamline. You will be working with firm stretch and compression fabrics.

Lesson 1. Getting Started with Shapewear

Meet expert intimate apparel sewer Beverly Johnson and get started by looking at the included pattern and variations for a custom shapewear wardrobe. Beverly helps you choose the right fabrics and pattern size, explaining how to easily alter the pattern for larger sizes.

Lesson 2. Layout and Sewing the Cami

Beverly shares layout, cutting and marking tips. You’ll start to sew the cami section of the full-body shaper with curved darts, and set it into the shaper front.

Lesson 3. Construction with Scoop Back Option

Continue constructing the shaper as you learn how to create an optional lower opening, then sew the inseam and side seams, and finish the hems and edges.

Lesson 4. Bra-back and To-the-hip Options

Customize your scoop-back full-body shaper with adjustable straps to finish it up. First you’ll draft the bra-back variation, then alter the pattern for the to-the-hip option.

Sewing machine with variable width zig-zag stitch

Serger optional

A knob or other pressing device to press darts over

Rotary cutter, either 28 mm or 18 mm, roatry cutting mat or…scissors to cut fabric out

Wash-out marker

Full body shaper

1 2/3 yd or 1.3 m power net or very firm stretch spandex for the largest size

½ yd or .5 m  stretch Lace for cami 6” to 9” wide depending on pattern size

Or…Stretch Fabric for cami – a piece 18” wide x 10” long

Small piece of cotton gusset lining 6” x 2”

.5 metre Strap elastic ½” to ¾” wide

2 sliders and 2 rings in width to match strap elastic

High quality thread to match

Hip length shaper

3/4 yd or .7 m power net or very firm stretch spandex for the largest size

½ yd or .5 m  stretch Lace for cami 6” to 9” wide depending on pattern size

Or…Stretch Fabric for cami – a piece 18” wide x 10” long
