Cut and Sew Foam Bra-Making Class (1 day)

Overview

Cut and Sew Foam Bra-Making Class (1 day)

If you have wanted a foam lined bra to “hide the headlights” or to smooth your profile under t-shirts, but you do not care for the padded look of pre-formed foam cups, the Cut and Sew Foam Bra-Making Class is for you!

Cut-and-sew cups have many advantages. Besides being made of a lightweight foam fabric, you can use virtually ANY stretch fabric to cover the cups – even fabrics way too stretchy to use in a regular bra. Best of all, you use your own bra pattern to create the foam cup so all of your lift and shaping is retained. In this class, you will learn the tricks of the trade to sew it up and finish the top edge with a professional look. You must be familiar with the construction of a bra and have a well-fitting bra pattern in order to attend this course.

Rental machines are available for $10 if you don’t want to bring your own machine. Just let us know so we can have one set up for you.

$150.00 CAD

What you get in the class

You get the foam lining, the fabric, duoplex and power net for the class, plus all the elastics, findings and hardware. We do not supply the pattern because we are going to teach you how to alter your own pattern to accept foam. So, remember to bring your bra pattern from the Beginner Bra Class!

Skill Level

Virtually all of the classes we teach are intermediate level classes. If you know how to set in a sleeve, we know you can make a bra. We don’t teach you how to sew, but we can teach you how to sew a bra.

Lesson Plan

Morning

You are going to love the cut and sew foam bra class! In the first hour of the class, you are going to see some fabulous cut and sew foam bras that we have sewn for ourselves. You’ll see lots of different applications using foam for bras, including lace and fabric overlays, and a shaped lace band. Once you have chosen your desired “look” you can choose the foam colour as well as the fabric and lace (if you decide to use lace). The we will teach you what changes you need to make to your well-fitting Classic Bra pattern in order to be used with foam. Once you draft the pattern and cut out the pieces you are ready to sew.

Afternoon

You will start right after lunch by sewing the elastics on the band. We use a slightly different construction sequence with foam, but don’t worry, it is not difficult at all. The band finished, you can now cover your cups with fabric. It takes a careful and patient touch to get the fabric just right on a foam cup, but after a short time, everyone’s cups look fantastic and they are ready to sew into the already-finished frame. Now you can sew on the channel and finish the bra. Once again, we love to take pictures of the bras you’ve finished!
