Description
Cotton Backed Satin
Our Cotton Backed Satin is another fabric carefully chosen for corset-making. As part of our corset supplies collection, we have brought in this wonderful, smooth satin. The satin is made from Rayon, with a cotton back. The fabric is quite heavy, making it great for corsets. This fabric can be used directly over your coutil base or can be fused with a medium weight interfacing for more structure.
The satin ranges from 50″ – 60″ in width.
This fabric is made from 50% Rayon/50% Cotton, giving the fabric a beautiful lustre and sheen. Because this fabric is made from natural fibres, it does not shrink when ironed. We recommend that the fabric be pressed on the backside only, as irons can cause a “bruising” effect, giving the fabric shiny spots. If you must iron the face, be sure to test on a scrap first and use a silicone iron shoe and/or a press cloth
Colours Available:
The Cotton Backed Satin is available in 9 gorgeous colours:
White, Light Pink, Deep Pink, Burgundy, Sapphire Blue, Navy Blue, Silver, available in 50″ width.
Black and Ivory are available in 60″ width.
How Much Fabric Will I Need?
This fabric ranges from 50″-60″ in width. An average corset or waist cincher requires approximately 1 metre. 1.5 metres is required for a longer or larger sized corset. To determine how much fabric you will need, use a large piece of paper or mark with tape on your work surface. Measure 22″ across (the width of the fabric folded in half), marking each end of the measurement on your paper or work surface. It may be helpful to draw or mark lines, at least a metre in length. Then, lay out your pattern pieces, making sure that they stay within the 22″ area marked with your pencil or tape. Once your pattern pieces are all placed, simply measure the length they take up. This is also a great way to experiment with how to lay out your pattern pieces in the most efficient way possible.
