Filpar Rubber Elastic Swimwear Elastic

The Filpar Rubber Elastic is our newest elastic for swim and dance applications. Filpar Rubber Elastic features a silicone coating on the ribbed surface that grips the fabric as you are sewing and serging. This ribbed surface prevents the “elastic creep” that sewers find so frustrating. The Swimwear Elastic is available in a width of 5/16″ (9 mm), so it is a bit narrower than the standard 3/8″ swim elastics. It is .9 mm thick, giving it a lower profile.

This elastic is Chlorine and salt resistant. The Swimwear Elastic is also thinner (can you see its thin profile in the picture?) making it less bulky and much more professional looking than its traditional, cotton wrapped, rubber counterpart. The elastic is available in White and Black. It is made from 100% rubber, with a silicone coating for ease of use. Sold by the metre or part metre.

Our customers use the Filpar for much more than Swimwear or Dance costumes. The manufacturers we have worked with also use it in applications where a sturdy, but thin elastic is needed. This elastic is used for swimwear legs, armholes, and necklines where a bulky elastic, such as cotton wrapped rubber is not desirable. In addition, Filpar Rubber Swimwear Elastic has long been used in athletic shorts, yoga pants, skating costumes, and garments for stage and screen. We use it exclusively when making thin straps for bikinis and dance, where the elastic must be sewn to the seamline of the strap so that it turns right-side out without a fuss.

Due to its thin profile and silicone coated ribbed surface, Filpar Rubber Elastic co-operates with either a sewing machine or a serger and therefore, feeds through without jamming up under the presser foot.
