Are Your Bras Spooky Enough?

Are your bras spooky enough for this year’s Halloween festivities? While most people don’t “celebrate” Halloween with a complete wardrobe makeover, there are lots of folks that love Halloween. They don’t want to miss any occasion that gives them an excuse to bring out their fabrics, sewing machines and sew up some Halloween spirit. Here are some Halloween creations that we pulled from our archives.  

Halloween isn’t always about orange. Here’s a set I made (back when I was this size) from black and blue iridescent spandex, double layered with Misty Fuse for stability. The bra is the Classic Bra pattern edged with fold-over elastic binding in black. The panties are made from the Veronica pattern.

Here’s a spooky bralette with back strap detail. Do you recognize the Sweet Sixteen bralette pattern in its clever disguise? We purchased spider web tulle and lined it with sheer cup lining for the cups, and lined it with orange Duoplex for the frame and straps. Then for the back detail, we edged the same fabric with fold-over elastic binding and attached them under the halter neck strap. The halter neck is fastened with our exclusive ring hooks. 

There are some who take bra-making to the next level. Is this set lingerie or costume? Look at the detail in those pieces!  Whether it is something you would wear or not, you have to admire the creativity and skill needed to build this. 

If you are fortunate enough to have an embroidery machine, why not use it and colourful threads to do some embroidery. This will certainly dress up your Linda bra made by our good friend Kathleen. Here’s a tip – embroider the fabric first, and use the pattern piece as a rough guide for placement of the embroidery. Be sure to leave room for the seam allowances. 

Our spider bra always gets attention. This was created using balconette style foam cups that had the top edge re-shaped to fit the spider web theme. By attaching narrow strap elastic to each point and joining it to the neckline stretch velvet strap, we were able to achieve this very comfortable, but sexy look.

Not so adventurous? You don’t need to be full-out spooky in order to dress for the occasion. Just use some themed fabric to create a bra or bralette and matching panties. 

And speaking of sexy…making cage or harness bras may not be your cup of pumpkin juice, but you have to admit, it’s got flair!

Back to our regular programming (sorry, I got carried away there!) Purple is always appropriate for Halloween, it seems. Here’s an Amethyst bra with lilac foam under a black lace. The straps are 3/4″ (128 mm) lilac strap elastic with narrow black ribbon stitched up the centre line. The ribbon stabilizes the strap. Two lilac bows complete the look (and cover the join between strap and cup)

Another bra for the season looks like a Van Gogh painting with swirls and splashes of all the colours we associate with Halloween. It’s not difficult sewing, being a Sweet Sixteen Bralette, but fussy cutting the pieces to appear to mirror on each cup is a bit tricky. That’s what makes the impact so great.
