Lesson 1. Measuring for Panties | 16:23

Meet Beverly Johnson, the “Fairy Bra-Mother,” who begins class with a quick overview of panty styles. You’ll also learn how to take measurements for the perfect fit and evaluate the “stretch factor” of prospective undergarments.

Lesson 2. Making the Pattern | 22:23

In Lesson 2, things get drafty! With measurements and stretch factors in hand, draft a master pattern for a brief-style panty.

Lesson 3. Constructing the Panties | 15:22

Start putting those panties together! As you construct your briefs, you’ll learn to sew an enclosed gusset, a mark of high-quality ready-to-wear panties. Later in the lesson, you’ll check your fit, measure the leg elastic and sew the elastic into your work.

Lesson 4. Completing the Panties | 29:00

You’re almost there! Sew the waistband elastic to complete your first panty, before Beverly runs through some troubleshooting techniques for fit adjustments.

Lesson 5. Changing the Style Lines | 20:06

Want a different look? Simple pattern alterations can turn your briefs into a bikini, hipster or French-cut panty! As Beverly shows you the steps for each, you’ll also get introduced to some of the shape-defining details that lead to a flattering look.

Lesson 6. Adding Designer Details | 17:46

Give those panties some pizzaz! Beverly shows you how to add feminine, comfortable lace edgings, appliqués, panels and godets, and ends class with the fun ruching technique.

Materials

• Knit fabric that will stretch from 30% to 100% over its original length. Good choices include cotton jersey, cotton spandex, bamboo knits, Modal, and nylon/spandex blends.
• Small amount of fabric for gusset lining. Good choices include cotton jersey, organic cotton knit or bamboo. Synthetic knits are not recommended.
• Lingerie elastic for the legs, ⅜”, ¼” or 5 /16″ wide
• Lingerie elastic for the waist, ⅜” to ¾” wide
• Lace edging, appliqués or other stretch trims as desired
• Polyester thread to match

I am SO grateful for Beverly Johnson’s panty making Craftsy class. I love the scrundlewear pattern from Stitch Upon a Time, but I have a very very large booty (thanks genes) and belly apron (thanks pregnancy). The 3X size of the scrundies pattern was almost right, but needed some altering to have the waist be small enough, but the hips big enough, with more of the altering needed on the booty. The section on altering the fit was absolutely perfect, and I now have a fully custom pair perfectly fitting pair of scrundies on. Knowing how to alter based on the amount of stretch is going to be a lifesaver. There are very few options for plus sized underwear, and the one kind that fit me the best was very poorly made and the elastic would just fall off after a few uses. For less than what I was paying, I can easily make myself a drawer full of high quality underwear.

I have always had trouble buying underwear because I have a small booty. So my underwear was always really tight on my waistband or really baggy on my butt or both. On my first try in this class I made a pair of panties that fit perfectly. Beverley gives a lot of variations on the panties and it’s easy to just make them out of leftover fabric from other projects, which is what I’ve done so far. I’m never purchasing underwear from the store again!

So on my journey of learning to be self sufficient, I’ve learned I’ve been in denial about my size! Lol. Beverly does a great job explaining the whole process even altering the pattern. I just finished my first pair. Although they are not perfect bc I need to work on my skills with elastic…. they are the most comfortable, well fitted panties I’ve EVER owned! Great class if you just want to learn or have issues during store bought stuff.

Wow! I absolutely loved this class! I’ve sewn my own panties before from pre-bought patterns but did not have much success in getting them to fit nicely. This shall happen no more! After watching the class I can now draft, design and alter my own pattern. Brilliant! I loved the options she gave for altering the style and adding decorative features, and I also loved the fact that she spoke clearly and gave simple to follow instructions. The only thing that I would like added to the class is a segment on drafting a g-string or Brazilian style pantie.
